Time to do a meta-post for once. I’ve been a long believer in the value of blogging, not only as a means to express to the world, but also as a way to synthesize one’s own thoughts. I spend hours every day reading, and blogging forces me to become opinionated and think more critically about some of what I read.
While the value has been clear to me for a while, I have struggled to establish proper routines regarding blogging. There’s been posts here and there, but at most there’s been months between each post. So during the Christmas holidays I asked myself: how can I force myself to start blogging more regularly?
The only way for me to find time to blog, is to make time. I have started setting aside 30 minutes in my calendar two days a week for blogging (knowing that a habit is best enforced gradually, I started with a goal of blogging a minimum of 2 times each week). The first error I made was to book these 30 minutes mid-day. I’ve found that there’s always a meeting overlapping with it, which often leads to me not blogging that day at all. Looking at bloggers with more continuity (eg. Fred Wilson), I see that most posts are published between 7AM-9AM local time. Makes a lot of sense, and something I will try doing going forward.
Starting with this post.
