Good and important response to Chris Dixon’s post on the future of computing. The public and academia play an extremely important role when it comes to pushing the envelope. Most people reading this probably already know that the Internet started as a government-supported military project, and I’d argue that you’d never find any private corporation willing to take such risk ever. Once you have shareholders, short-term gains will always reduce the willingness to invest in super-risky far-out-in-the-future projects. Except if you’re Elon Musk, I guess 🙂
